3 Reasons to Love Religious Ed
by David Crane
It's that time of the year again -- time to be educated. As if school wasn't bad enough, we also have to go back to Religious Ed classes. One disturbing thing that I've discovered though is that many high school students don't go to Religious Ed once they've been confirmed. That doesn't make sense to me, so I've decided to help!
Read on and discover the top three reasons to love Religious Ed!
Reason #3: Your parents will be shocked when you tell them you want to attend.
Parents just assume that they'll have to fight with you to go to Religious Ed. In fact, sometimes they've already given up before you even talk about it. So if you want to really shock your parents, don't shave your head, pierce your tongue, or bring home a Goth date. Just tell them that you need a ride to religion class!
Reason #2: The more you know, the better off you are.
Let's face it; knowledge rules. People might laugh at all-A Poindexter because he doesn't own a single Hollister shirt, but who'll be laughing 20 years from now when they're living paycheck to paycheck and their kids are paying top dollar for clothing from the company Poindexter owns? Some people might laugh at you if you want to learn about your religion. But in the grand scheme of things, do you think staying home to play Madden on your Xbox is really going to help you at all?
And the #1 Reason to Love Religious Ed: Faith is a journey, so travel with friends!
It doesn't matter how much or how little you know about Catholicism or being a good Christian. Having a strong faith is not about already knowing everything. It's about growing in our understanding of Jesus and his message. Some people have grown a lot, while the faith of others has just begun to sprout. Perhaps the best way to look at faith is to see it as a journey with heaven as the last stop. And that's where Religious Ed class comes in. It's like car pooling on the road to heaven. What better way to travel than with friends?
So there you have it. You can shock your parents, increase your knowledge, and travel along the highway to heaven in the company of friends. Three great reasons to love Religious Ed!
